March 11th, 2002. John R. takes the head of security and 17 others hostage in Amsterdam biggest skyscraper. John R. demands to speak with the Philips head of Sound&Vision. His goal is to warn people about a large-scale fraud, aimed at brainwashing consumers by means of widescreen TV sets. In the film, we find out about John's preliminary frustrations, his bizarre encounter with Philips head of Sound&Vision Gerard Wesselinck, their impossible friendship, rivalry and John's armed attempt to force the executive to do penance in public.

Government agent Jim Galloway is sent undercover to investigate shifty businessman Louis Rankin for violations of the Neutrality Act, a law forbidding the exporting of troops and war materiel to foreign countries. After hiring on as Rankin's new take-charge foreman, matters become more complicated as Galloway learns that Rankin has used Rita, his vampish girl friend, to dupe the governor's son into becoming partners in Rankin's schemes, which Rankin could later use to blackmail the governor, should the need arise.

There were 48 films in the series, which were released between 1960 and 1965. The series was screened as The Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre on television in the United States.
